Getting a Facebook Messenger voice message into a file
An English Messenger voice message, or one in another language, becomes text here once you have it as a file. The Messenger phone apps have no option to save it, so start your phone's screen recorder with sound on, play the message and stop recording. On a computer, messenger.com sometimes offers to save it from the message's More menu. Choose the file here, set the language or leave detection on, and press Transcribe.
Your phone keeps a screen recording as a video, on an iPhone in Photos. The uploader pulls the sound out of it in your browser and sends only that, so the size limit is measured on the audio rather than on the picture.
Messenger has started adding a Transcribe option to its phone apps. It is being introduced gradually, so not everyone has it yet, and it covers a long list of languages that leaves out some, Persian, Romanian and Chinese among them. The text it shows also stays in the conversation. A transcript made here is kept in your library with speaker labels, a summary and chapters, in the spoken language you pick.

Questions
How do I transcribe an English Messenger voice note?
Screen-record the voice message with sound on while it plays, or save it on messenger.com if the option is offered. Choose the file here, set the spoken language to English or keep detection on and press Transcribe, signing in free if the page asks. The text appears in your library.
Does Facebook Messenger transcribe voice messages?
Partly. Messenger is gradually adding a Transcribe option to its phone apps, for a listed set of languages that doesn't include Persian, Romanian or Chinese, and not every account has it yet. Uploading a recording here doesn't depend on having that option, and you choose the spoken language.
How do I save a Messenger voice message as MP3?
The Messenger phone apps can't save a voice message, and messenger.com only sometimes offers to. You don't need an MP3 for this page: a screen recording of the message playing, made with your phone's recorder, uploads as it is.
Does the uploader send the picture from my screen recording?
No. Only the audio track is taken from the video in your browser and uploaded, and the size limit counts that audio. Stopping the recording right after the voice message ends keeps the file small.
How many Messenger voice messages can I transcribe free?
Up to 10 files a day, from a total of 6 h of free transcription. For each one you can read the first 15 min of the transcript; Sync Pro shows the whole text.
