Convert M4A to MP3

M4A · MP3 · WAV · FLAC · OGG · OGA · WebM · AAC · OPUS · MP4 · MOV · MKV

Converting happens in your browser, so your file never leaves your device. Transcribing uploads the audio to SeaMeet.

Choose an M4A, such as an iPhone voice memo, and save it as an MP3 that plays anywhere.

How it works

  1. Choose the M4A file, for example a voice memo.
  2. Pick the quality and select Convert & download.
  3. Save the MP3, or transcribe the recording.

Voice Memos and other M4A recordings

M4A is the audio format Apple devices use. The iPhone Voice Memos app saves every recording as M4A, so do many Android recorder apps, and so does audio bought or exported from iTunes. It sounds good and stays small, but some players, car stereos, older phones and websites only accept MP3.

To get a voice memo onto your computer, open it in Voice Memos, tap Share and save it to Files, or send it to yourself. Then choose it here. Your browser converts it on the device, so a recording of a class, a doctor's appointment or a family conversation is never uploaded to convert.

Voice memos are usually speech: lectures, interviews, ideas you dictated while walking. If you want the words rather than the sound, Transcribe this file sends the audio to SeaMeet, which returns a transcript with speaker labels and a short summary.

Questions

Is my M4A uploaded?

No. The file is converted inside your browser and stays on your device. Only if you choose Transcribe this file is the audio uploaded to SeaMeet to be transcribed.

Is there a length or size limit?

Not for converting: nothing is uploaded, so your device's free storage is the only limit. For transcription, each file can be up to 512 MB and 5 hours long.

How do I get a voice memo off my iPhone?

Open the recording in Voice Memos, tap the Share button and choose Save to Files, or send it by AirDrop or email. On a computer, choose that file here. On the iPhone itself, choose it from Files.

Is M4A the same as AAC?

Nearly. M4A is the file container and AAC is usually the sound inside it. Some apps save the same format as a bare .aac file instead. This converter reads both and writes a standard MP3.
