Getting a voice note out of WhatsApp
WhatsApp has recorded voice messages in the Opus format for years, so a saved voice note usually ends in .opus, and sometimes in .ogg. On Android, WhatsApp's help pages describe exporting a chat: tap More options, then More, then Export chat, and choose Include media. The most recent media, voice notes included, is added as attachments you can save to your phone.
On an iPhone, open the chat, find the voice message and use the Share menu to save the file. Other messengers such as Telegram and LINE also let you forward or share a voice message; save it as a file first, then choose it from this page. Some Android recorders and messengers save short notes as .amr files, and those upload as they are.
WhatsApp can also show its own transcript of a voice message on your phone. Uploading the file here gives you something different: a transcript kept in your library with your other recordings, speaker labels when several people speak, and a summary for longer notes. Pick the spoken language from a list of 55, or let SeaMeet detect it, which helps when notes arrive in more than one language.

Questions
How do I export a WhatsApp voice message on Android?
In the chat, tap More options, then More, then Export chat, and choose Include media. The most recent media, voice notes included, is attached to the export. Save the voice note file, then choose it on this page.
How do I convert a WhatsApp audio message into text?
Save the voice message as a file, usually ending in .opus or .ogg. Open this page, choose the file, set the spoken language or leave detection on, and press Transcribe; sign in free if the page asks. The text appears in your library.
Which voice message files work?
Voice notes usually arrive as .opus, .ogg, .m4a, .aac or .amr files, depending on the app and the phone, and all of them upload here without conversion. If a file has another ending, save it again from the app rather than renaming it.
Can I transcribe voice messages for free?
Yes, within the free plan. Your account has 6 h of transcription in total and up to 10 files a day. You read the first 15 min of each transcript, which covers most voice notes in full.
