Telegram voice messages without a Premium subscription

Transcribing a Telegram voice message, in English or another language, starts with getting the note out of the chat. Select it and share it to Files on a phone, or right-click it in Telegram Desktop and use Save As; the tabs above walk through each device. Then choose the file here, set the spoken language or leave detection on, and press Transcribe.

Telegram hands you voice messages as .ogg files on Android, iPhone and desktop alike, and they upload without conversion. One catch: a group or channel that restricts saving content switches off Share and Save, so in those chats there is no file to take.

Telegram has its own voice-to-text button, but it belongs to Telegram Premium. Free accounts only get a small weekly trial, and Telegram doesn't publish which languages it handles. A transcript made here doesn't depend on a subscription to the messenger. How do I transcribe an English Telegram voice note?

Save the voice message from Telegram first: select it and share it to Files on your phone, or use Save As in Telegram Desktop. Choose the .ogg file here, set the language to English or keep detection on and press Transcribe, signing in free if the page asks.

Does Telegram transcribe voice messages?

Telegram's voice-to-text is part of Telegram Premium. Free accounts get a small weekly trial of it, and Telegram doesn't list the languages it covers. Saving the note and uploading it here gives you a transcript that stays in your library whether or not you pay for Premium.

Why can't I share or save a Telegram voice message?

Some groups and channels turn on restricted saving of content. In those chats Telegram switches off Share and Save, so the voice message can't leave the app as a file and there is nothing to upload here. Other chats keep both options.
