Convert OPUS to MP3

OPUS · MP3 · M4A · WAV · FLAC · OGG · OGA · WebM · AAC · MP4 · MOV · MKV

Converting happens in your browser, so your file never leaves your device. Transcribing uploads the audio to SeaMeet.

Choose a file that ends in .opus and your browser saves it as an MP3 that any player can open.

How it works

  1. Choose the OPUS file, for example a WhatsApp voice message.
  2. Pick the quality and select Convert & download.
  3. Save the MP3, or transcribe the message.

Files that end in .opus

A file that ends in .opus is sound encoded with the OPUS codec, saved without the .ogg label. On Android, WhatsApp keeps voice messages as .opus files, and they are what you get when you export a chat with its media or copy the voice notes folder to a computer. Some voice recorder apps and call tools save OPUS too, because it keeps a voice clear in a very small file.

The problem is the extension. Windows Media Player, many car stereos, older phones and a lot of editing software don't recognize .opus, and upload forms that ask for audio often reject it. An MP3 of the same message opens anywhere. Your browser does the converting on your own device, so a personal message isn't uploaded to become an MP3.

When someone sends a long voice message you would rather read, or you need a record of what was said, Transcribe this file sends the audio to SeaMeet, which returns the text with speaker labels.

Questions

Is my OPUS file uploaded?

No. The browser decodes the OPUS file and writes the MP3 on your own phone or computer, so the message stays with you. If you select Transcribe this file, the audio is uploaded to SeaMeet for that step.

Is there a length limit for OPUS files?

None for converting, as nothing is uploaded; your device just needs space for the MP3. Transcription has its own limits, 512 MB and 5 hours per file, which a voice message rarely comes near.

Where does WhatsApp keep .opus files on Android?

In the WhatsApp media folder on the phone's storage, under Voice Notes, in folders grouped by week. A file manager app can reach it, or connect the phone to a computer. Exporting a chat with media also includes the voice messages as .opus files.

Is .opus the same as .ogg?

The sound inside is often the same. OGG is a container that can hold OPUS or the older Vorbis codec, while a .opus file is always OPUS. This page reads both, and so does the OGG to MP3 converter.
