Why only the audio uploads
Video files are large, but the speech lives in the sound track. When you choose a video, SeaMeet opens it on your device, copies the audio track out without re-encoding it and uploads only that. The 512 MB limit applies to the extracted audio, not to the video, so a large video file can still fit.
Extraction reads the file in pieces rather than loading the whole video into memory, and a progress bar shows it before the upload starts. On a computer this works for long recordings. Phones have less room to work with, so a very long video may be refused there with a note to use a computer or export the audio instead.
Most MP4 and MOV files carry AAC sound, and most WebM and MKV files carry audio we can read as well. Some cameras and editing tools use other audio codecs; if a video is refused for that reason, export it again as MP4 with AAC audio. A video with no sound track at all, such as a silent screen capture, is caught before anything uploads.

Questions
Is my whole video uploaded?
No. Only the audio track is taken from the video in your browser and uploaded, and the 512 MB limit applies to that audio. The picture is never sent, so a large video does not mean a large upload.
How long can the video be?
Up to 5 h. Long videos are easiest to prepare on a computer; on a phone, a very long video may be refused with a note to use a computer or to export the audio instead.
How do I transcribe a video to text for free?
Choose the video and press Transcribe, and sign in free if the page asks. The audio uses free hours equal to its length out of the 6 h your account has, and on the free plan you read the first 15 min of the transcript.
Can I transcribe a video from a link?
No. The page works with files on your device, not links to video sites. If you have the right to save a copy of the video, save the file first and then choose it here; only its audio is uploaded.
