00:00 Maya Thanks for joining. Let's start with the launch date.

00:04 Daniel Design is done, but the store listing still needs screenshots.

00:10 Maya Can we have those by Friday?

00:13 Daniel Yes, if marketing sends the final copy tomorrow.

00:18 Priya I'll send it tonight.

00:21 Maya Great. Then the launch date stays where it is.

The team keeps the launch date. Design is finished, and the store screenshots will be ready by Friday once marketing sends the final copy, which Priya sends tonight.

How it works

  1. Choose your MOV file from an iPhone, a Mac or a camera.
  2. Set the spoken language; we extract the MOV's audio in your browser.
  3. Read the MOV transcript in your library.

MOV files from iPhone and QuickTime

iPhone videos, QuickTime recordings and screen recordings made on a Mac are saved as MOV. They almost always carry AAC sound, which we copy out of the file on your device without re-encoding, so the transcript works from the original audio and only that audio uploads.

To transcribe an iPhone video from the phone itself, open this page on the phone, tap Choose a file and pick the video. On a Mac, drag the MOV onto the drop box. The 512 MB limit applies to the extracted audio, not to the MOV, and the length limit is 5 h.

Some professional cameras write MOV files with uncompressed PCM sound, which we cannot read yet. If your file is refused for that reason, export the clip again as MP4 with AAC audio from your editing software, and it will work. A MOV with no sound track, such as a silent screen recording, is caught before anything uploads.

Questions

Is my whole MOV file uploaded?

No. Only the audio track is taken from the MOV in your browser and uploaded; the picture stays on your device. That keeps uploads small, and the 512 MB limit counts only the extracted audio.

Does it work with iPhone screen recordings?

Yes, if the recording captured sound. Screen recordings made with the microphone off and no app sound have nothing to transcribe, and the page tells you so before anything uploads.

Why was my MOV file refused?

Most often its audio uses a codec we cannot read yet, such as the uncompressed sound some cameras record. Export the clip as MP4 with AAC audio and try again. A MOV with no sound track is refused too, since there is nothing to transcribe.

Can iPhone transcribe video to text?

Yes, through this page. Open it in your iPhone's browser, choose the video and press Transcribe, signing in free if the page asks. The audio is prepared on the phone and uploaded, and on the free plan you read the first 15 min.
