How it works
- Choose the video: MOV, MKV, WEBM or MP4.
- Pick the quality and select Convert & download.
- Save the MP3, or transcribe the speech in it.
iPhone MOV, screen recordings and downloaded clips
Videos arrive in more than one container. An iPhone saves MOV, screen recorders like OBS often write MKV, a browser tab recording is usually WEBM, and many cameras and apps use MP4. Media players and editors tend to accept only some of these, but they all accept MP3.
This page takes any of them and keeps just the soundtrack. The video is read on your own device, a piece at a time, and the picture is thrown away, so the MP3 is a fraction of the size. There is nothing to upload, which keeps family videos and work recordings on your machine.
Common reasons: the audio of a talk you filmed on your phone, the soundtrack of a clip you recorded yourself, a voice-over you want to reuse, or a recorded call you need to write up. When it is speech, Transcribe this file uploads the audio to SeaMeet and turns it into text.
Questions
Is the video uploaded to convert it?
No. The conversion happens in your browser, and only the sound is kept, on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to transcribe, which uploads just the audio to SeaMeet.
How long or large can the video be?
As long as you like for converting. The video is not uploaded, so the limit is the free storage your device has for the MP3. To transcribe it, the audio must be under 512 MB and 5 hours.
Does it keep only the sound?
Yes. The picture is discarded and the first audio track is saved as MP3. If a video has several audio tracks, for example two languages, the first one is used.
My video has no sound in the MP3. Why?
Some screen recordings are made without audio, and a few cameras use sound formats a browser can't decode. The converter tells you when a video has no audio track or one it can't read.
