What to expect from a Japanese transcript
The transcript is written the way Japanese is normally written (日本語): kanji, hiragana and katakana together, with no spaces between words. Loanwords such as リリース or スクリーンショット come back in katakana, and product or company names that people say in English often appear in Latin letters. Names are where you will do most of your checking: the same sound can be written with several kanji, so compare personal and place names with your own notes before you share the text.
Many Japanese meetings slip into English for a phrase or a technical term. The file is transcribed as one language, so leave the picker on Japanese when most of the talk is Japanese; short English terms usually come through as katakana or Latin letters. If a call with an overseas team is mostly in English, choose English instead.
Typical files are team calls between offices, seminar and university lectures, interviews for research, and voice messages saved from LINE. Japanese has no spaces, so when you turn a transcript into SRT subtitles, check where each line breaks and move a break that splits a phrase before you publish.

Questions
What if my recording isn't in Japanese?
Open the language picker and choose the language that is spoken, or pick automatic detection. The page only starts on Japanese because that is what it is for. If the finished transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the file again in that language.
Can I get the transcript in romaji?
No. The transcript is written in Japanese script, in kanji and kana, the way a Japanese reader expects. If you need romaji for study or for a name list, convert the parts you need with a separate tool after you have checked the text.
What happens to English terms in a Japanese meeting?
Keep the language on Japanese when most of the conversation is Japanese. English terms that people drop into their sentences usually appear in katakana or in Latin letters. Product names are worth a quick check against your notes before the transcript goes to anyone else.
Is Japanese transcription free?
Yes, within the free limits. Your account has 6 h of transcription in total, and on the free plan you read the first 15 min of each Japanese transcript. Sync Pro opens the whole transcript, and the language does not change what you can use.
Do SRT subtitles work for Japanese?
Yes. The SRT file keeps the Japanese text with times taken from the spoken words. Because Japanese has no spaces, a line can break in the middle of a phrase, so read the subtitles once in your editor and move any awkward breaks.
