How it works

  1. Choose your Korean recording: a KakaoTalk voice message, a class or a team meeting.
  2. Korean is already selected, so just press Transcribe.
  3. Read the transcript by speaker, or download it as SRT subtitles.

What to expect from a Korean transcript

The transcript is written in Hangul (한국어), with spaces between phrases as Korean normally uses them. Spacing is one of the things worth a second look: Korean spacing rules are strict and even careful writers disagree, so if the text is going into a report or onto a screen, read it once and adjust where a phrase splits oddly.

Korean meetings and lectures borrow a lot of English, from job titles to software names. Keep the language on Korean when most of the conversation is Korean; borrowed words usually come back in Hangul spelling, while product names are sometimes written in Latin letters. Choose English instead only if most of the recording is English.

Typical files are KakaoTalk voice messages, recorded classes and study groups, interviews and team meetings. Honorific endings and casual speech are both transcribed as spoken, so a transcript of a meeting with a manager reads differently from a chat between friends. For subtitles, the SRT file keeps the Hangul text with times taken from the spoken words.

Questions

What if my recording isn't in Korean?

Open the language picker and choose the language that is spoken, or pick automatic detection. If the finished transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the file again in that language.

How are English words in Korean speech written?

Leave the picker on Korean when most of the talk is Korean. Loanwords usually come back in Hangul, the way Koreans write them, and some brand or product names appear in Latin letters. Check names before you share the transcript.

Is the spacing in the transcript correct?

Mostly, but Korean spacing is hard even for people. Read the transcript once and fix spacing where it matters, for example in a report or anything you will publish. The words themselves are transcribed as spoken.

Is Korean transcription free?

Yes, within the free limits: 6 h of transcription in total, and the first 15 min of each transcript readable on the free plan. Sync Pro opens whole transcripts, whatever the language.
