Polish diacritics, office English and voice notes

The transcript is written in Polish (polski) with the full alphabet: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź and ż. Those marks change meaning, so a transcript without them would be hard to use; ours keeps them, and the text can go straight into an email or a report once you have checked it. Choose Polish, or let SeaMeet detect it.

Polish office talk borrows freely from English: deadline, call, feedback, meeting. Keep the picker on Polish when most of the conversation is Polish, and those loanwords usually stay as spoken inside Polish sentences. The same goes for Poles in the UK, Ireland or Germany whose family calls drift between languages. A file that is mostly English or German should be transcribed in that language instead, because one language is used per file.

Typical Polish files are recorded online meetings, recruitment interviews, university lectures and podcasts. As of now, WhatsApp's published list for its own voice transcription doesn't include Polish, so a voice note forwarded from a grandparent can be saved and uploaded here instead. Messenger does list Polish for the Transcribe option in its phone apps. SRT subtitles keep the Polish letters, with times taken from the spoken words.

Questions

What if my file isn't Polish?

Change the language picker to the language that is actually spoken, or choose automatic detection. If a finished transcript reads like the wrong language, one click transcribes the same file again in the language you pick.

Will the Polish letters come out right?

The transcript uses Polish spelling, including ą, ę, ł, ó and ż. If an older program shows odd symbols after you paste, the text itself is fine: save or open it as Unicode and the letters reappear.

What about English words in a Polish meeting?

Leave the picker on Polish if most of the talk is Polish. Borrowed terms such as deadline or feedback usually stay as people said them. Read product names and surnames once before you share the text, since those are the easiest to misspell.

Can WhatsApp transcribe Polish voice notes itself?

Not at the moment: Polish isn't on WhatsApp's published list for voice transcription. Save the voice note from the chat to your phone or computer, upload it here with Polish selected, and you get a transcript you keep in your Library.
