Slovak, Czech words and the Hungarian south

The transcript is in Slovak (slovenčina), with the letters that set it apart from Czech: ä, ľ, ĺ, ŕ and ô, plus the usual č, š, ž, ť, ď and ň. Choose Slovak, or let SeaMeet detect it. The picker entry stands for Slovak as a whole, whether the speaker is from Bratislava, Žilina or Košice, and there is no separate entry for eastern dialects.

Czech words often slip into everyday Slovak, and Czech and Slovak speakers often share one call. Because one language is used per file, choose the language most people speak; automatic detection may confuse two languages this close. In southern Slovakia, many families switch between Slovak and Hungarian. Pick whichever dominates the recording, or split a long bilingual meeting into two files.

Common Slovak files are team calls, interviews for university theses, parish and community meetings, and voice messages from relatives working in Czechia, Austria or the UK. As of now, WhatsApp's published transcription list doesn't include Slovak, so saving the voice message and uploading it here is the way to get it as text. The SRT subtitles keep Slovak letters, with times from the spoken words.

Questions

What if my file isn't Slovak?

Change the picker to the spoken language, for example Czech or Hungarian, or choose automatic detection. If a transcript still looks like the wrong language, one click runs the same file again in the language you choose.

Can automatic detection mistake Slovak for Czech?

It's possible, because the two languages sound close; we haven't measured how often it happens. To be sure, keep Slovak selected in the picker. If a transcript already reads like Czech, one click transcribes it again in Slovak.

Does it handle eastern Slovak dialects?

The picker has one Slovak entry, and our check used standard Slovak only. Dialect words may come out in standard spelling or be misheard, so read the transcript against the recording before using it.

Is Slovak transcription free?

Yes, up to a limit. You get 6 h of transcription in total and can read the first 15 min of each transcript on the free plan, for files up to 512 MB. Sync Pro unlocks complete transcripts.
