Basa Jawa in Latin letters, ngoko and krama
The transcript is written in Basa Jawa using the Latin alphabet, the way Javanese is typed in family chats and printed in Javanese magazines today, not in aksara Jawa (hanacaraka). In our own short test the Javanese came back in Latin script. Written Javanese isn't fully standardised, so check spellings with dh and th, as in dhewe or kathah, along with names of people and places.
Javanese shifts between ngoko among friends and krama with elders or at formal events, and one conversation often uses both. SeaMeet doesn't convert one register into the other: what was said in krama is transcribed as krama. The picker has a single Javanese entry, whether the speakers are from Yogyakarta and Solo, East Java or the Banyumas area, so read regional words through.
Many speakers move between Javanese and Indonesian in the same sentence. Automatic detection picks one language for the whole file, so choose the one most of the recording is in: Javanese for an arisan, a neighbourhood meeting or a chat with grandparents, Indonesian for an office meeting with a few Javanese jokes. The transcript stays in Javanese and is not translated into Indonesian. Typical files are family voice notes, oral-history and thesis interviews, and pengajian talks. As of now, WhatsApp's published list for its own voice message transcripts doesn't include Javanese, so save the voice note as a file and upload it here. SRT subtitles keep the Javanese text with times from the spoken words.

Questions
What if my recording isn't in Javanese?
Choose the language that is spoken, for example Indonesian or English, or pick automatic detection. If the transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the file again in that language.
Can I get the transcript in aksara Jawa?
No. The transcript is written in Latin letters, the way most Javanese is typed today. If you need hanacaraka for a school task or a sign, convert the checked text with a separate transliteration tool.
Does it handle krama as well as ngoko?
Choose Javanese for both. SeaMeet doesn't turn ngoko into krama or the other way round, so a conversation that moves between registers stays that way in the transcript. Krama inggil vocabulary and names are the parts worth reading through before you share it.
Should I choose Javanese or Indonesian?
Choose the language heard most in the recording, because detection picks one per file. A family chat, arisan or village meeting held mostly in Javanese should use Javanese. An office meeting or a lecture that is mostly Indonesian, with Javanese asides, should use Indonesian.
Is Javanese transcription free?
Yes, within the free limits: 6 h of transcription in total, up to 10 files a day, and the first 15 min of each transcript readable on the free plan. Sync Pro unlocks full transcripts.
