Kiswahili from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam
Kiswahili is written in the Latin alphabet with no special letters, so the transcript is plain Latin text, split by speaker. Borrowed terms have settled Swahili spellings, such as bajeti, ripoti and kompyuta, the way a newspaper prints them. Sheng, the Nairobi street mix of Swahili and English, has no fixed spelling, so slang may be written however it sounds. Check it before the text goes out.
Choose Swahili, or let SeaMeet detect it. There is one Swahili entry in the picker, and recordings from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda or the coast all use it. Office talk in East Africa swings between Swahili and English inside one sentence. Detection settles on one language per file, so pick the language most of the recording is in: Swahili for a village water committee, English for a board meeting with a few Swahili asides.
Swahili recordings tend to come from gatherings: chama savings groups, church and harambee meetings, school boards, radio call-ins, and researchers' interviews in the field. Many start as voice notes in a group chat. WhatsApp's own transcription doesn't list Swahili as of now, so save the voice note and upload it here. The summary gives you the decisions for the minutes, and SRT subtitles keep the Swahili text, timed from the spoken words.

Questions
What if my file isn't Swahili?
Pick the language that is actually spoken, for example English, Arabic or French, or choose automatic detection. If the transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the same file again in that language.
Which picker entry do I use for Tanzanian Swahili?
The single Swahili entry, whether the speakers are from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda or the coast. There is no separate entry per country. Place names, clan names and local terms are worth a quick check before you share the text.
What about Sheng and English mixed into Swahili?
Keep the picker on Swahili when most of the talk is Swahili. English phrases can stay in English, and Sheng slang has no standard spelling, so it may come out spelled by sound. If English dominates the recording, choose English instead.
Can I use it for chama or committee minutes?
Yes. Upload the meeting recording, and the transcript comes with speaker labels, a summary and chapters. Rename the speakers to the members' names once the whole transcript is readable, and the summary uses those names too.
How much Swahili can I transcribe for free?
The free plan gives 6 h of transcription in total, and you can read the first 15 min of each transcript. Sync Pro unlocks the complete transcript of every file you upload.
