00:24 Annelie Ek stuur vanaand 'n stemnota, dan kan almal voor Vrydag sê of hulle kan help.

00:30 Pieter Mooi so. Dan finaliseer ons die lys Maandag in die personeelkamer.

How it works

  1. Pick your Afrikaans file: a WhatsApp voice note, a church meeting or an interview.
  2. Afrikaans is already selected, or let SeaMeet detect it. Press Transcribe.
  3. Read each speaker's turns, then save a TXT or SRT copy if you need one.

Afrikaans, English and the spelling in between

The transcript is written in Afrikaans spelling, in Latin letters, the way you would type it in a message. Afrikaans leans on its diacritics: ê in sê, ë in geëet, ô in môre, and the apostrophe in the article ʼn. In our own short test one circumflex went missing, so môre came back as more. Read through the letters with hats and dots before you send the text on.

Choose Afrikaans, or let SeaMeet detect it. Many speakers slip into English mid-sentence: a spreadsheet here, a deadline there. Keep the picker on Afrikaans when most of the talk is Afrikaans, and switch to English when English carries the conversation, because detection settles on one language per file. Afrikaans can sound close to Dutch, so if a transcript comes back looking Dutch, run it again as Afrikaans.

There is one Afrikaans entry in the picker, and speakers in Namibia or families in Australia, New Zealand and the UK use it too. Typical files are voice notes from family groups, school committee and church council meetings, farmers' co-op calls, radio interviews and university lectures. WhatsApp's own transcription doesn't list Afrikaans as of now, so save the voice note and upload it here instead. SRT subtitles keep the Afrikaans text, timed from the spoken words.

Questions

What if my file isn't Afrikaans?

Change the picker to the language that is spoken, for example English or Dutch, or choose automatic detection. If the transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the file again in that language, so you don't need to upload it twice.

Should I check the accents in an Afrikaans transcript?

Yes. Afrikaans uses ê, ë, ô and ʼn, and in our short test the circumflex in môre came back as plain more. Read the transcript once for accents and apostrophes, and fix names and place names before you share it.

What happens to English mixed into Afrikaans?

Keep the language on Afrikaans when most of the recording is Afrikaans. English terms such as spreadsheet or meeting can stay in English spelling inside the Afrikaans text, so check them as you read. If most of the talk is English, pick English instead.

Can I transcribe Afrikaans WhatsApp voice notes?

Yes. Save the voice note from the chat with the Share menu, then upload the file here. WhatsApp's published transcription list doesn't include Afrikaans as of now, and the transcript you get here stays in your Library with speaker labels and a summary.

Is Afrikaans transcription free?

Yes, up to the free limits: 6 h of transcription in total, with the first 15 min of each transcript readable on the free plan. Sync Pro opens the full transcript of every file.
