Standard Slovene, dialects and the dual

The transcript is written in Slovene (slovenščina) with the Latin alphabet as it is printed in Slovenia: č, š and ž are kept, and Slovene itself has no ć or đ, so check those letters in names from Croatia or Serbia. Slovene also has the dual, so forms such as "midva greva" or "napiševa" are part of normal speech, and they are worth a glance when you check the text for names and verb endings.

The picker entry stands for standard Slovenian as spoken in Slovenia. Slovenia has a lot of dialects for its size, from Prekmurje to the Littoral and Carinthia, and a speaker from the east may sound quite different from one in Ljubljana. We make no promise about how a strong dialect comes out; the transcript is written in standard spelling, so read names and local words before you share it.

Typical files are university lectures, online team meetings, research interviews and talks recorded at local events. If people drop into English for a technical phrase, keep Slovenian selected when most of the talk is Slovene. Automatic detection picks one language for the whole file, so choose the main one. Questions

What if my file isn't Slovenian?

Choose the language that is actually spoken, for example Croatian or English, or pick automatic detection. If the transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the file again in that language.

Does the transcript keep č, š and ž?

Yes. Slovenian comes back in Latin letters with č, š and ž, the way Slovene is written. If an older program shows odd characters instead, open or save the text as Unicode.

Will a recording in dialect work?

The picker stands for standard Slovenian, and the transcript uses standard spelling. Speakers with a strong regional dialect, from Prekmurje or the Littoral for example, may give words that need a closer read, so check names and local expressions before you use the text.

My meeting mixes Slovenian and English. Which language do I pick?

Pick the language most of the meeting is in. SeaMeet transcribes one language per file, so English terms inside Slovene sentences usually stay as spoken, while a long English section may come out less cleanly. The transcript is not translated.
