00:00 Maya Thanks for joining. Let's start with the launch date.

00:04 Daniel Design is done, but the store listing still needs screenshots.

00:10 Maya Can we have those by Friday?

00:13 Daniel Yes, if marketing sends the final copy tomorrow.

00:18 Priya I'll send it tonight.

00:21 Maya Great. Then the launch date stays where it is.

The team keeps the launch date. Design is finished, and the store screenshots will be ready by Friday once marketing sends the final copy, which Priya sends tonight.

How it works

  1. Choose a FLAC file up to 512 MB.
  2. Pick the spoken language or let us detect it, then press Transcribe.
  3. Read the FLAC transcript in your library.

FLAC: lossless audio at a smaller size

FLAC compresses audio without throwing anything away. When it is decoded you get back exactly the samples of the original recording, yet the file takes noticeably less space than the WAV it came from. That makes FLAC a sensible way to keep long, high-quality recordings, such as archived interviews, radio programmes or oral-history sessions.

Most audio editors and many field recorders can save FLAC directly, and music libraries often store it too. You can upload it without converting: there is nothing to gain from turning a FLAC into MP3 first, and converting only adds a step.

The size limit is 512 MB per file, and a long stereo FLAC recorded at a high sample rate can still pass it. If that happens, lower the sample rate first; speech stays clear at far lower settings than music needs. Mixing down to mono also works when both channels carry the same room sound, but not when each channel holds a different speaker. The length limit is 5 h.

Questions

Can I transcribe an audio file in FLAC?

Yes. FLAC uploads like any other audio file. Choose it here, set the spoken language or leave detection on, and press Transcribe. The transcript opens in your library with speaker labels, a summary and chapters.

Should I convert FLAC to MP3 first?

No need. FLAC uploads as it is, and converting to MP3 adds a step without making the transcript better. Keep the file you have unless it is over the size limit.

What if my FLAC is over 512 MB?

Export it again at a lower sample rate, which keeps speech clear while shrinking the file a lot, or as mono if both channels carry the same sound. You can also split the recording into shorter parts and upload them in turn.

Is FLAC transcription free?

You can start free. Your account has 6 h of transcription in total and up to 10 files a day, and free transcripts show the first 15 min of each file.
