Convert FLAC to MP3
FLAC · MP3 · M4A · WAV · OGG · OGA · WebM · AAC · OPUS · MP4 · MOV · MKV
Converting happens in your browser, so your file never leaves your device. Transcribing uploads the audio to SeaMeet.
Choose a FLAC and your browser makes a much smaller MP3 of it, on your own device.
How it works
- Choose the FLAC file, for example a track from an album.
- Pick the quality and select Convert & download.
- Save the MP3, or transcribe the recording.
From a FLAC album to MP3 on your phone
FLAC is lossless: it stores exactly the sound that was recorded or mastered, packed tighter than WAV but still large. Music bought from download stores in lossless form, rips of CDs you own and some field recordings often come as FLAC. A full album can take hundreds of megabytes, and plenty of phones, cars and players won't play FLAC at all.
MP3 is the trade. The file gets much smaller, a fraction of the FLAC, and it plays everywhere, but it is no longer lossless: the encoder drops some detail to save space. At the higher quality setting, music stays close to the original for everyday listening. Keep the FLAC as your archive, and use the MP3 for the phone, the car or sharing.
Your browser does the conversion on your device, so the FLAC is not uploaded. If the FLAC is a recording of speech, an interview taken with a field recorder for example, Transcribe this file sends the audio to SeaMeet for a transcript.
Questions
Does converting upload my FLAC files?
No. Each FLAC is converted by your browser on your own computer or phone and never sent anywhere. The audio is uploaded only when you choose Transcribe this file, because SeaMeet transcribes on its servers.
Can I convert a large FLAC?
Yes. There is no upload and no size cap for converting; your device needs room for the MP3, which is much smaller than the FLAC. For transcription the limits are 512 MB and 5 hours per file.
Will the MP3 sound as good as the FLAC?
Not exactly. MP3 removes some detail to save space, so it is no longer a lossless copy. At the higher quality setting it stays close to the original for listening on phones, earbuds or in the car. For editing or archiving, keep the FLAC.
Can I convert a whole album at once?
One file at a time. Choose a track, convert it, then select Convert another file for the next one. Each MP3 downloads with a name based on the FLAC it came from.
