00:00 Maria Magandang umaga sa lahat. Simulan na natin ang meeting, ha.

00:05 Paolo Sige.

How it works

  1. Choose a Filipino recording: an online class, a thesis interview or a saved voice message.
  2. Filipino is already selected; press Transcribe, or switch to Cebuano or English first.
  3. Read the transcript by speaker, or download it as SRT subtitles for your editor.

Tagalog, Taglish and English spellings

The picker entry is Filipino, the national language built on Tagalog, so it is the one to choose for Tagalog recordings from Metro Manila or the provinces around it and for Filipino as it is spoken elsewhere in the country. The transcript is written in the Latin alphabet in ordinary Filipino spelling, and it stays in Filipino: nothing is translated into English.

Most everyday Tagalog is Taglish. In our own short test, English loanwords came back in English spelling: a speaker who said badyet or iskedyul got budget and schedule in the transcript. Expect the same for words like meeting, deadline or presentation. Automatic detection picks one language for the whole file, so keep the picker on Filipino when Tagalog carries the conversation, and switch to English only when English does.

The recordings people bring are online classes, thesis interviews for qualitative research, church talks, and voice messages from family working abroad. Messenger lists Tagalog for its own Transcribe option, which it is still introducing gradually, and as of now WhatsApp's published list doesn't include Filipino. Either way, a recording you have as a file can be uploaded here and kept in your Library. If the speakers use Cebuano (Bisaya), pick Cebuano, which has its own entry. SRT subtitles keep the Filipino text with times from the spoken words.

Questions

What if my recording isn't in Filipino?

Choose the language that is spoken, for example Cebuano or English, or pick automatic detection. If the transcript sounds like another language, one click transcribes the file again in that language.

How are Taglish recordings handled?

Keep the picker on Filipino when most of the talk is Tagalog. English words mixed into Tagalog sentences stay in the transcript, and in our test even loanwords spoken the Tagalog way, such as badyet, came back as the English budget. A recording that is mostly English should use English.

Is Filipino the same as Tagalog here?

Yes. The list has one entry, Filipino, and it is the one to use for Tagalog. Other Philippine languages are different: Cebuano (Bisaya) has its own entry, while Ilocano, Hiligaynon and Waray aren't in the list.

Does WhatsApp transcribe Tagalog voice messages?

As of now, WhatsApp's published list of languages for its own voice message transcripts doesn't include Filipino. If you have the voice message as a file, upload it here and choose Filipino; the transcript is kept in your Library with speaker labels, a summary and chapters.

Is Filipino transcription free?

Yes, within the free limits: 6 h of transcription in total, up to 10 files a day, and the first 15 min of each transcript readable on the free plan. Sync Pro unlocks full transcripts.
