00:00 Μαρία Καλημέρα σε όλους. Ξεκινάμε με τον προϋπολογισμό της έκθεσης;

00:05 Νίκος Ναι. Το περίπτερο κλείστηκε, μένει να αποφασίσουμε για τα φυλλάδια.

00:10 Μαρία Προλαβαίνει το τυπογραφείο να τα έχει έτοιμα ως την Παρασκευή;

How it works

  1. Choose your Greek recording: an interview, a lecture or a family call.
  2. Greek is already selected; press Transcribe.
  3. Check the accents as you read, then download SRT subtitles if needed.

Greek script, accent marks and what to check

Greek (Ελληνικά) is in SeaMeet's language list, and the picker on this page starts on it. The transcript comes out in the Greek alphabet, not in Greeklish, the Latin-letter spelling many people type in chats. If you need Latin letters, convert the text you have checked with a separate tool afterwards.

Written Greek marks the stressed vowel with a tonos in nearly everything longer than one syllable, and adds a diaeresis on words such as προϋπολογισμός or Ευρωπαϊκή. Those marks are the first thing to read against the audio, before the text goes into a document or a subtitle file. Names of people and places deserve the same second look.

Greek recordings come from university lectures in Athens or Thessaloniki, research interviews, parish and community meetings abroad, and family calls between Greece, Cyprus and relatives in Australia, Germany or the United States. Cypriot Greek uses the same Greek entry; there is no separate option for it. As of now, WhatsApp's published list for its own voice transcription doesn't include Greek, so a voice note can be saved and uploaded here.

When English terms come up in a Greek meeting, keep the picker on Greek if most of the talk is Greek, since each file is transcribed in one language. The SRT subtitles follow the same Greek text, with times taken from the spoken words.

Questions

What if my file isn't Greek?

Set the picker to the language that is spoken, or choose automatic detection. If the transcript reads like a different language, one click transcribes the same file again in that language, so you don't need to upload it twice.

Has SeaMeet tested Greek?

Only with a short test of our own, and it didn't confirm Greek yet: the transcript came back in Greek script, but the vowels that carry an accent mark were dropped. Read each transcript against the audio, the accent marks first, before you use the text anywhere.

Can I get the transcript in Greeklish?

No. The transcript is in the Greek alphabet, the way Greek is written. If you need Latin letters, for a name on a form or a message to a friend who can't read Greek, convert the text you have checked with a separate tool.

Can I transcribe a Greek WhatsApp voice note?

Save the voice note from the chat to your phone or computer, then choose the file here. WhatsApp's own transcription doesn't list Greek as of now. Here the transcript is split by speaker, kept in your library, and comes with a summary and chapters.

Can I try Greek transcription for free?

Yes. A free account has 6 h of transcription in total, and the free plan shows the first 15 min of each transcript. Sync Pro opens the full text. Each file can be up to 512 MB and 5 h long.
